Where I came from

Today would have been my Mother's 85th birthday. She was born in beautiful Jamaica and migrated here in the early 1960's. She had a hard life, but was a strong, feisty, wonderful woman who I try to emulate. Had it not been for her, I would not be here, simple!

I believe she also suffered from depression, but back in her day such things were not recognised, let alone spoken of. She endured many difficult life events, and a long but rocky marriage. I know that through the violence, unfaithfulness and intermittent abandonment she had feelings of low self esteem, loneliness, rejection, sadness, anger and despair. However she survived! She also had great joy and fulfilment. Her caring personality, sense of fun, strong faith and genuine love of people ensured she had many friends of all ages who loved her dearly, literally until her dying day.

I dedicate this blog to her Memory. RIP Mum.
